Artist of the day

Fougasse was the pen name of Cyril Kenneth Bird. Following being invalided out of the armed forces in WW1 at the Battle of Gallipoli, in 1916 he joined 'Punch' magazine as an illustrator. He remained at 'Punch' until 1953, becoming chief editor in 1949.

Fougasse also provided illustrations for other publications. His most notable were WW2 propaganda posters for the Ministry of Information, a series entitled "Careless Talk Costs Lives".

Take a look at Jaarts.co.uk for his work.
