England cricket team at Suez on their way to Australia

This is an original 1884 cartoon illustration from "The Graphic" magazine by travel writer T R Swinburne. It depicts a cricket match between an England XI and the British Military.

This print is in excellent condition considering its age.

The print is 14 x 25 cm (approx 6 x 10 inches or c.A4/A5) in size. The print is mounted ready for your favourite frame. The mounted size is 28.0x 35.5 cm (approx 11 x 14 inches or c.A3).

The Sporting Life reported on the England cricket teams voyage to Australia for the Ashes Tour and their stop at Suez, where they played a match against the British Army and Navy on coconut matting stretched over the sand. The military presence in the region was to protect the Suez Canal.
