This is an original 1939 illustration from the "Punch" magazine by Bernard Partridge.
The illustration depicts a British Policeman accosting a member of the IRA under the proposed Prevention of Violence Bill.In January 1939 the IRA declared war on Britain. The campaign was to sabotage the civil, economic and infrastructure of the UK. Consequently, the Act was introduced to allow that anyone suspected of being involved in the preparation or instigation of acts of violence 'designed to influence public opinion or Government policy with respect to Irish affairs' was liable to be refused entry to Britain, or to be expelled from the British mainland.
This print is in excellent condition considering its age.
